Patha Bhavan (Society) was established in 1965 as a nonprofit society registered under the West Bengal Societies Registration Act, 1961. It was founded by a group of educationists and notable individuals, including Sri Satyajit Ray, Sri Sushobhon Sarkar, Smt. Uma Sehenabis, Justice Tarun Kumar Bose, Dr. Amiya Kumar Bose, Sri Samik Bandopadhyay, and many others. Society’s primary objective is to create educational institutions that align with Rabindranath Tagore’s vision and pedagogy, as practised at Patha Bhavana in Santiniketan.
Patha Bhavan School was established in 1965 under the umbrella of Patha Bhavan Society. Currently, the society operates 4 institutions: 1) Patha Bhavan Secondary & Higher Secondary School.
2) Patha Bhavan Dankuni in Dankuni Coal Complex, Hooghly (established in 1992) (both of which are affiliated with the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education and the West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education).
3) Patha Bhavan School (Montessori & Primary Department) in Kolkata.
4) Patha Bhavan Serampore (In association with Serampore Educational and Cultural Organisation)
Patha Bhavan Secondary & Higher Secondary School started its operation from its present location, a rented property at 103 A & C Ballygunge Place, Kolkata 19. Patha Bhavan School (Montessori & Primary Department) operates from two properties at 13/1 Palm Avenue, Kolkata 19 (Primary Department) and at 5/1 Swinhoe Street, Kolkata – 700019 (Montessori Department)
